Opsi configuration editor, Java, Hwaudit, hwinvent EROOR!

Beitrag von Linux2013 »

I have finnally managed to install OPSI server in an virtualized server environment which almost gave me an headache!.

First the OPSI shit complained on the JAVA as I have found out many OPSI newbees including myself got and I wonder why? I have installed the server according to the manuals but I cant log in without a lot of errors and warnings about Java. I tried everything I could get hold of by searching on OPSI forum and Google. The only thing solving my JAVA error shit problem was this command:

usermod -aG opsiadmin root
getent group opsiadmin

After that I could log on OPSI webinterface without any problems, but then I got another problem. OPSI doesnt find anything, no clients, no hardware scans and so on. Not even if I put the windows clients in the list manually. So what is still missing to get this "fantastic" OPSI product to work? It doesnt say what, how or when in the manuals either, so please help!

Whats the next step(Linux command?) to do, so the OPSI server founds all my windows clients on an existing entire Windows 2008 AD domain with 300 computers?
Whats the next step(Linux command?) to do, so the OPSI server can do an hardware and software inventory on my existing entire windows 2008 AD domain with 300 windows client computers?
Whats the next step(Linux command?) to do, so the OPSI server can automatically update all my Microsoft Clients in my entire windows 2008 AD with Microsoft patches? According to http://www.opsi.org/en I should be able to " •Automatic software distribution and patch management" but exacatlly what do I have to do, to get this to work a step by step is needed? Linux commands and so on??? Please help and yes I have read all the rubbish OPSI manuals explaining a lot but there is no manual out there telling me how to activate a simple thing like hwaudit and hwinvent which is needed to do just a simple inventory. So please help me.... I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Hello,

I'd recommend you to read the getting started guide.
Especially the following section should help you with your problems: http://download.uib.de/opsi_stable/doc/ ... deployment

We provide packages for OS patches as a service.
A subscription fee is required to receive these packages as stated at http://www.opsi.org/en/features/feature-list under the point patchmanagement.
However you may feel free to build your own patch packages for this.

Kind regards
