JavaVM License: migration to OpenJDK?
Verfasst: 04 Mai 2026, 12:01
Hi,
It seems the terms of use for the "Oracle Java Runtime Environment" have changed and now require a license in most cases.
In any case, my university is asking me to replace it as soon as possible with "OpenJDK" (https://openjdk.org/) in order not to have to pay a "site license".
Here's my question: is the localboot package "javavm" (provided directly by the "opsi" repository) intended to be replaced by OpenJDK?
I currently only use it for "opsi-configed" (and on very few PCs).
N.B.: "configed" works perfectly with OpenJDK under Linux, but I can't get it to run under Windows (an exception occurs in a "javaLang" class).
Regards.
