OPSI bootimage vs. Realtek driver

Beitrag von inszekt_ »

We have a widespread problem related to RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev 01). Signs of the problem:
We can see DHCPDISCOVER from the client than DHCPOFFER from the server in the logs, but no DHCPREQUEST and DHCPACK happens... If we configure eth0 manually the address is binded to the interface flawless, but we can not ping anything but the assigned IP and localhost.

The core of the problem is that usually r8169.ko loaded instead of r8168.ko (for example when using Knoppix 6.7). The recommended solution (in the forums) is to use the official Realtek driver compiled by hand -- instead of the one included in the official kernel or in the distribution's precompiled kernel packages.

As we can see, the OPSI team deploy the official Realtek driver in the boot image (CD: 2011.01.17, Realtek: v 8.20.00), but this doesn't solved the problem. The correct driver -- r8168.ko -- is loaded during OPSI CD boot, but neither DHCP nor manual ip config works yet :(

What sholud be the next step? Maybe can we use an "experimental" boot CD packaged with the most recent Realtek driver (v8.24.00) or something else?

Any idea is highly appreciated...

regards, np
