Loading miniroot.bz2....ready and nothing more via VM
Re: Loading miniroot.bz2....ready and nothing more via VM
Hello d.oertel!
As you recommended I am using this "edd=off" option, but unfortunately we came back to the problem "loading....ready" and it stops there.
Thanks!
Fernando.

Hello Everybody!
I still can not running the installation via PXE with OPSI as I've described. Please, ideas are always welcome! =D
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
we didn't know about this problem yet.
According to a little bit google research edd is the 'BIOS enhanced disk drive support'.
So it looks like we have some problems with your virtual hardware.
Possible ways around:
- append line options edd=off (didn't helps) or edd=skipmbr
- change your virtual hardware (use a scsi disk instead of ide)
- use a older bootimage
- use a newer vmware product (like vmplayer 3.x)

Re: Loading miniroot.bz2....ready and nothing more via VM
Sorry to take so long for a feedback.
So, let's see the results:
Thank you!
Fernando.
So, let's see the results:
It didn't work...- append line options edd=off (didn't helps) or edd=skipmbr
It didn't work...- change your virtual hardware (use a scsi disk instead of ide)
It didn't work...- use a older bootimage
To be honest, it is the last procedure that I need to test. I will keep you updated!- use a newer vmware product (like vmplayer 3.x)
Thank you!
Fernando.
Re: Loading miniroot.bz2....ready and nothing more via VM
Hi,
I have the problem too. I use the OPSI VM Server and a VMware Client. The DHCP Server is my Windows 2k3 Server. My VMware is VMServer 2.02.
In the Company it's works fine. Put at home the pxe loader goes to READY and nothing more.

Re: Loading miniroot.bz2....ready and nothing more via VM
Just to add to the knowledge on this topic; I have had the same problem.
However I am talking about physical machines displaying the same problem. I think the issue is the installer.
I get errors like "irq 9: nobody cared. Please try with 'irqpoll'" but the installation (after waiting about 10 minutes) would eventually carry on.
Although it does start up in German.
Unfortunately apart from running through it paces, extracting the server image, and then rebooting - it fails to mount the root filesystem. (It stalls in the initrd waiting for the root filesystem to appear).

Re: Loading miniroot.bz2....ready and nothing more via VM
It turns out that the writing out of grub is failing, it is picking the wrong device. Once I corrected that, things booted.lpanand hat geschrieben:- it fails to mount the root filesystem. (It stalls in the initrd waiting for the root filesystem to appear).
Now - to find out a username / password pair and continue with section 3.1 of the server manual ...

It turns out disabling GDM from starting (with the command line 'text') is the magic invocation.lpanand hat geschrieben:lpanand hat geschrieben:Now - to find out a username / password pair and continue with section 3.1 of the server manual ...

Hi,
ok i have found the Problem. I use VM Server Version 2.02. At my Company ei say it works. I tested die Client with ESX4i and ESX3.5. Now I install at home die Virtualbox and it works too. So I think it gives a Problem with VMware Server Version 2.02.
Sorry for my bad englisch. I'm a German People.
