Questions about OPSI

Beitrag von shade »

Hello,

I have been testing the OPSI demo server, and it seems promising for our needs, but I have some questions:

You write in the manual.
Please note that an opsi-server needs storage place in /opt/pcbin and /var/lib/opsi. In both directories a free space of minimum 8 GB is recommended.
We have a single msi file that is 8 GB, and when packages are made in /home/opsiproducts, then I guess I will nedd /opt/ and /home to be on a couple of 100 GB ?

Does the /var/lib/opsi dirextory need to also be the same size as the other 2 or shall it still be on 8 GB ?

Is it possible to create a Danish language pack (and share it back too you) ?

When using the software-on-demand, are we able to change so the link created on machines not are https://localhost:4441/swondemand but https://localhost.domain.lan:4441/swondemand instead ? and then distribute a star certificate (*.domain.lan) with the client ? Too get ridt of the warning message in the browser.

Are we able too upgrade from file backend to mysql backend later in the process without loosing data ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Yes - the 8 GB is a little bit outdated. You have to estimate what you need for your products and OS installation files.
I think normally are 100 GB really enough for the opsi_depot.
If you are now planning a new server and you like to have different Partitions, so you should plan your space for the opsi_depot share at /var/lib/opsi/depot and not for /opt/pcbin. /opt/pcbin/install is not LSB conform an will vanish (indeed it is only a symbolic Link from /var/lib/opsi/depot)

For /home/opsiproducts you need less than for opsi_depot because you do not need all the OS installation files and drivers over there.
Is it possible to create a Danish language pack (and share it back too you) ?
Yes - that is very welcome. Give me an eMail and I will describe to you where to find which translation files.
distribute a star certificate
I have to ask the developer Erol tomorrow ...

Yes

For productive opsi installations we recommend support contracts.

Great :) My plan where to make a single DNS entry "localhost.domain.lan" in the DNS server that points to 127.0.0.1, because then it could be used on all clients with the star certificate to get ridt of the warning message in the browser.

I have received your email, and will look at it when we have installed a "real" OPSI server, instead of the demo.
